Fitting the Bills: Zach Charbonnet RB UCLA

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

Height: 6003 Weight: 214 40: 4.53 RAS: 9.65 PFWR Rank: 61 PFWR Grade: 7.94

Charbonnet is a big strong power back with great hands. He bulls his way through the line between the tackles and does not shy away from contact downfield. A solid blocker in pass pro. He is a one cut and go back, but displays patience to wait for blocking to develop when needed, sliding and powering forward. He has a strong leg drive to push the pile and has a knack for the endzone, recording 27 TD's his last two years at UCLA.

Zach transferred to UCLA from Michigan to be closer to home. A consideration for the Bills to evaluate, to make sure he will be comfortable playing on the opposite coast. However, Charbonnet is exactly the type of back the Bills will be looking for as a compliment to James Cook and Nyheim Hines. Brandon Beane, in his mid Free Agency press conference stated a priority of the Bills will be to add a bigger back to slot in with two speedsters. At 6003, 214, Charbonnet may not be the biggest of the big back options, but his tough, physical play style will certainly add a different dimension tot he Bills backfield.

Charbonnet is also a true weapon coming out of the backfield as a receiver. UCLA took full advantage of his receiving ability by using him on screens, swing routes and split out wide. He is a fluid route runner, with long arms and big hands capable of snaring passes at the high point. When he catches the ball out in space, he is a bull to take down.

The Bills will be looking to add a back with Zach Charbonnet's skill set and there is a strong possibility he will be selected by them on day two of the draft.
